The IAWA Board of Directors came together on April 26-27th in Washington, DC. The Board focused on carrying out IAWA’s mission to Connect, Inspire & Lead women leaders in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Connect with IAWA

Again this year, IAWA partnered with the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and Women in Corporate Aviation (WCA) to bring a networking event for women aviation professionals to EBACE in Geneva, Switzerland on May 26. Women from around the globe gathered to connect and share their experiences.  A series of theme-based discussions were held and moderated by industry leaders. IAWA President Lisa Piccione provided opening remarks and moderated one of the discussions.

Airbus group generously hosted a Connect for IAWA members and other guests at the ILA Berlin Air Show on 2nd June 2016. Around 40 women, mostly from the German aviation and aerospace industries participated. As special guest speaker Mrs Brigitte Zypries, Parlamentary State Secretary at the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Coordinator of Germany’s aviation and space policies, participated in the Connect.  The attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network with Mrs. Zypries and among each other. As it was IAWA’s first Connect organized in Germany the response from the guests was outstanding.

At the recent Royal Aeronautical Society AGM, IAWA, a Corporate Partner, played their part in the all important voting process. Taking place at the illustrious Hamilton Place HQ in London, the AGM reached a milestone in voter turnout. The RAeS is the world’s only learned society dedicated to the entire aerospace community and is celebrating its 150th year anniversary this year. IAWA, dedicated to connect, inspire & lead women leaders in the aviation and aerospace industry is proud to have been invited as Corporate Partner since 2014.

IAWA members should be aware that with the RAeS corporate affiliation all members are welcome to attend lectures and participate in the various cities where they are based.

IAWA women from the tri-state area gathered at the Chelsea Wine Vault in New York City on Thursday evening to celebrate the arrival of Spring with an opportunity to connect while enjoying a wine and cheese tasting. We had a great turnout of IAWA Board Members including Diana Shapiro, Andrea Brantner, Sharon DeVivo, and Deb Fowler. Many new and prospective new members were in attendance and had the opportunity to meet and network with current IAWA members to learn more about our organization. Attendees were treated to a presentation and tasting of Old World vs. New World wines by one of the Vault's Sommeliers. This event was a huge success thanks to our generous sponsors: Baumeister & Samuels, Condon & Forsyth, Fitzpatrick & Hunt, USAIG, and XL Catlin. Cheers!

The IAWA Community came together on April 26th for the Washington DC Reception. Held in conjunction with the IAWA Board Meeting, this unique event provided members and friends the opportunity to network with Board Members, friends and new connections. Thank you to Pillsbury for hosting the event!

IAWA and IATA co-hosted a breakfast reception on February 19, 2016 at the IATA Legal Symposium held in Barcelona, Spain. The reception was attended by more than 30 women in the industry, as well as IAWA board members Carol Anderson and Alina Nassar, and IAWA Advisory board member Elizabeth Freidenberg. Attendees from a variety of countries had the opportunity to network and share experiences, and were also honored by the visit of Jeffrey Shane, IATA General Counsel. IAWA wants to thank IATA for its continuous support to this event, as well as to our sponsors Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, Fornesa Abogados, Haynes and Boone, LLP, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and Studio Pierallini.
