First Officer Kandy Bernskoetter serves as the ALPA National Membership Committee Chair representing over 59,000 pilots at 35 airlines in the United States and Canada.
Kandy began her professional piloting career in 1998, flying for several cargo and passenger carriers including ATA Airlines and Vanguard Airlines. She was hired by FedEx Express in 2004 and is currently a Boeing 777 First Officer. She holds type ratings for the B737, B757, B767, B777, MD11, and SA227.
In 2020, she was appointed by the Secretary of Transportation to serve on the Women in Aviation Advisory Board for a 2 year term. The purpose of the WIAAB is to develop and provide independent recommendations and strategies to the FAA Administrator to explore opportunities for encouraging and supporting female students and aviators to pursue a career in aviation. She works with the International Federation of Air Line Pilots (IFALPA) Female Pilot Working Group. This working group is focused on assisting female airline pilots with improving their work environment through the development of policies and exchange of information.
She is also the founder and Chair of the FedEx ALPA MEC Pilot Assistance Team Hotline, leading a 20-person team offering physiological, psychological, and aeromedical support to FedEx pilots in times of crisis.
Kandy graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Geography. She holds a certificate in Specialized Training in Emergency Services from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. She is also licensed by the FCC as an amateur radio operator and is a member of the Fayette County, TN Amateur Radio Emergency Services Team.
In her off time, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Wolf River Conservancy and the Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation. She enjoys river kayaking and hiking.
